Schindler House Wikipedia

road house

The Chaces and Schindlers shared the house from the summer of 1922 until July 1924 when the Chaces moved to Florida. Whether Road House is simply bad or so bad it's good depends largely on the audience's fondness for Swayze -- and tolerance for violently cheesy action. Judging by the trailer, Gyllenhaal appears to have gotten pretty ripped for the film.

Schindler's friend, partner and rival, Richard Neutra along with his wife Dione and son Frank lived in the Chace apartment from March 1925 until the summer of 1930. With Schindler as architect and Chace as builder to save costs, construction began in November 1921.

Tilghman plans to invest substantial funds into the dilapidated club and needs Dalton's highly regarded skills to tackle the endemic violence and rough customers. Dalton agrees in exchange for full authority over the club's operations, immediately firing several employees for poor behavior, theft, and drug dealing. For privacy, Dalton stays in a sparse barn owned by a farmer Emmett, unaware that the mansion across the adjacent lake is owned by Brad Wesley, a crime lord controlling the town through bribery, intimidation, and violence.

Later, Wesley contacts Dalton threatening that either Elizabeth or Garrett will die. Garrett is attacked, but fights off his assailants and comes to Double Deuce, while Dalton checks on Elizabeth, who is safe but unwilling to talk to Dalton any further. Distraught, Dalton storms Wesley's estate, kills most of his henchmen and defeats, but relents from killing Wesley, refusing to give in to his anger.

As we've seen from his earlier movies, the best of which include The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, Liman is a more-than-capable director of action. The bar brawls here are well choreographed and cleanly shot, and the fighting encompasses everything from intimate fisticuffs to grander-scale set-pieces. Probably my favorite performance is given by a hungry crocodile who makes short work of one of the more annoying members of the cast and gives the movie some authentic Florida flavor.

He is approached by Frankie, the owner of an unruly roadhouse in the Florida Keys community of Glass Key, who offers him a job as head bouncer. Initially hesitant, Dalton takes up the offer after narrowly averting a suicide attempt with a freight train that destroys his car. He takes a bus to Frankie's establishment, called simply The Road House, and befriends Charlie, a teenager who runs a bookstore with her father, Stephen. The Schindler House is laid out as two interlinking L-shaped apartments (referred to as the Schindler and Chace apartments) using the basic design of the camp site that he had seen a year before.

Elizabeth arrives and reconciles with Dalton, but Wesley recovers and attempts to shoot him before being shot dead by the locals, including Emmett and Red. Sometime later, the modernized and refined Double Deuce bustles with customers while Dalton and Elizabeth swim together in a lake. One evening, the auto shop adjacent to the Double Deuce — owned by Elizabeth's uncle Red Webster — is destroyed in an arson attack. After Dalton and the crowds return inside the Double Deuce, they find Wesley awaiting them. He has his men fight Dalton's bouncers and damage the bar before agreeing to leave. Wesley sabotages other businesses as the local owners discuss their futile efforts to stop him.

Road House has achieved cult status and was voted as the most watched film on cable in 2020.[5][6] A sequel titled Road House 2 was released in 2006 and a remake with the same name was released in 2024. They're reportedly looking to lock up a major name to direct the "Road House" reboot as well, with "The Bourne Identity," and "Edge of Tomorrow" helmer, Doug Liman, eyeing the director's chair. Of course, with the film's shooting script still not up to snuff, and its behind-the-camera talent still taking shape, it's anybody's guess when the "Road House" reboot will actually shoot, let alone when it will be released.

The concrete walls and sliding canvas panels made novel use of industrial materials, while the open floor plan integrated the external environment into the residence, setting a precedent for California architecture in particular. Terrell Smith has a diverse writing background having penned material for a wide array of clients including the federal government and Bravo television personalities. When he’s not writing as Terrell, he’s writing under his pseudonym Tavion Scott, creating scripts for his audio drama podcasts. Terrell is a huge fan of great storytelling when it comes to television and film.

Receiving a knife wound in the process, Dalton visits a hospital and befriends Dr. Elizabeth Clay to whom Wesley is also attracted. After sending his henchmen to unsuccessfully try to disrupt business at the Double Deuce, Wesley offers to hire Dalton himself. Dalton refuses and Wesley uses his connections to prevent the Double Deuce from purchasing alcohol from any suppliers. Dalton uses his own connections to secure some supplies and reunites with his mentor Wade Garrett, an aging bouncer. Wesley sends his men to destroy the Double Deuce's supplies, but Dalton and Garrett defeat them.

Stephen discovers Dalton has left them the trunk of cash as the bus pulls away. In a mid-credits scene, Knox has survived and assaults the hospital staff, leaving in his gown. Frankie admits that Brandt has been buying up property to build an expensive resort, but she is the lone holdout. Dalton decides to leave town but discovers that Charlie and Stephen are in the hospital after Brandt's men burned down their bookstore. Enraged, Dalton kills one of the thugs responsible and captures a sheriff's deputy making a large delivery of Brandt's illicit cash, framing the deputy for the murder and taking the money. The sheriff soon informs Dalton that Brandt has kidnapped Ellie and will exchange her for the money.

At his most winning despite his character’s lethal nature, Gyllenhaal keeps up the one-liners and drollery. In lieu of Swayze’s Zenlike musings, he gives us dry inquiries about whether his challengers have medical insurance before pummeling and delivering them to a hospital. At the Road House, Dalton fends off a motorcycle gang working for local crime boss Ben Brandt and personally drives the injured thugs to the hospital, where he meets Ellie, a doctor who tends to his injuries.

That version of the film never really took shape, however, and the current iteration looks to be a more straightforward remake of the original. While the film is likely a long ways from heading before cameras, it seems MGM is hot to get the production off the ground. So much so, they're now meeting with writers to touch up a screenplay previously written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

We are expected to believe that the sadist financed these hunting expeditions by shaking down the businesmen in a town that, on the visible evidence, contains a bar, a general store, a Ford dealership and two residences. "Road House" is the kind of movie that leaves reality so far behind that you have to accept it on its own terms. This movie delivers a lot of the same kicks as the first, but with contemporary tuneups like a villain played by Conor McGregor, the Ultimate Fighting Championship star who’s first seen stark naked, except for shoes and socks (so he can carry his phone). Though two hours long, the movie moves as swiftly as a greased ferret through a Habitrail and delivers hallucinatory action highs for its extended climax. Road House can sometimes be so bad it's good, but more often, the uneven acting and ridiculous story are just disappointing. As Frankie and Stephen begin to rebuild, Charlie says goodbye to Dalton as he waits for his bus out of town.

10 Best Bulgaria Tours for Singles Solo Travelers

norwegian singles cruise

Many Norwegian cruise ships offer single-cabin “Studios,” which, although quite small, do not incur a single-supplement fee. On most regular Norwegian sailings, there will be singles meet-ups organized so solo travelers can get socialize and get to know each other. They are quite small and compact but they work out much cheaper than booking a double-occupancy stateroom and paying almost double the price.

Norwegian's Studio Lounge

It was such a success that the line continued to include the studio cabins on ships that followed. You'll find them on Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Prima and Pride of America. There is nothing that cements the age-old adage of “size matters” quite like the fleet of the Royal Caribbean.

With the introduction of nearly 1,000 dedicated solo staterooms across its 19-ship fleet, NCL has gone above and beyond to cater to single travelers. These solo cabins range from the cozy and compact inside cabins to the expansive and luxurious balcony cabins. And let's not forget the original, ever-popular Studio cabins that initiated the trend.

STUDIO STATEROOMS

Like any form of travel, it's best not to let your guard down, especially if you go off alone with someone you've just met. An editor I once knew found her true love on an expedition-style cruise. They married within months of returning home and now have two children. Whether it was the thrill of the expedition, the forced digital detox of a remote destination or the close quarters of a small ship, their relationship clearly blossomed on board. Furthermore, Cruise Critic makes no guarantees for availability of prices advertised on our site.

The newer ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet are more tailored towards solo cruisers, with new ships since the Norwegian Epic launched in 2010. Prague serves as a transfer destination for Danube River cruises, as well as cruises that eventually hit the Main, Rhine and Moselle rivers. Passengers frequently overnight here for one day or more before journeying by bus to meet their ships.

Once my flight arrived to California, I was quickly able to find the area where ride shares meet outside the terminal, and my Uber arrived exactly at the prescheduled time. In order to get to the initial cruise port in Los Angeles I needed to fly from Florida to California. This meant two flights and several Uber rides, in addition to the cruise itself on this solo journey.

Lines to consider include AmaWaterways, Viking River Cruises, Avalon River Cruises, Emerald Cruises and Uniworld River Cruises. River cruises also sometimes offer reduced single supplements, making them more affordable for those traveling alone. Single travelers in their 60s and older with a large travel budget should consider luxury cruise lines like Seabourn Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Silversea Cruises. All of these cater to singles with reduced supplement charges and singles meet-and-greets.

These solo cabins are situated around an exclusive-access Studio Lounge, which features a bar and television area, as well as daily happy hours. Norwegian Cruise Line announced Monday its plan to expand its offerings to travelers who want to cruise without a companion. The line will more than double its solo accommodations across its 19-ship fleet beginning in January.

A top pick for this age group would be an Alaska sailing on Silversea Cruises. This luxury line includes everything in one fare — even many fabulous Alaska excursions you would pay hundreds of dollars for on any other line. The ships are small enough that you can easily meet your fellow travelers, and the excursions make it easy to share experiences with other singles on board. Visit the maitre d' on the first day of your cruise to ensure you are seated at the same table or group of tables with other singles for dinner in the main dining room.

Solo traveling on a cruise can be a great opportunity to unwind and appreciate some quiet relaxation in a beautiful setting. I had arranged my hotel stay to be between the Ontario airport and Los Angeles cruise terminal. My hotel stay was great, and although I did not get much sleep because I planned to wake up early the next day to make my way to the cruise terminal, the hotel room was very comfortable. I enjoyed relaxing and watching a TV show while decompressing from the long travel day before I went to sleep. The cruise departed out of Los Angeles, California and had three days at sea, ultimately ending up in Vancouver, British Columbia.

This means you’ll be traveling onboard a Norwegian cruise ship as part of a group of singles who all follow or at have the option to participate in the group’s own planned events and activities. Along with access to these lounges, Norwegian Cruise Line does a great job of providing special events and socials for passengers traveling alone. Some of these meetups are held in various locations around the ship, while some are held in the exclusive studio lounge. It was a really neat experience to be able to check out all of the exclusive solo traveler amenities that Norwegian Cruise Line offers to its guests! I appreciate that Norwegian goes the extra mile to provide a unique experience to passengers traveling alone. Dining arrangements, onboard activities and port tours make meeting like-minded people easy.

Another cruise line that works well for young singles is Virgin Voyages, which is child-free and has rooms and activities designed for singles. If you'd like to find companionship at sea, here are our top tips for making the most of a singles cruise. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. For the first time ever, Norwegian is introducing three new solo stateroom categories, including Solo Inside, Solo Oceanview and Solo Balcony for future sailings starting Jan. 2, 2024. If you are specifically looking to cruise with other singles, a good option is to book a charted singles cruise. Most of the ships are packed with a wide range of activities as well as award-winning entertainment, such a Rock of Ages.

Some cruise lines make it even easier for singles to find each other with solo cabins clustered together and scheduled events for singles. Designated solo cabins will be available on every ship, but the number of accommodations will vary. For example, currently, Pride of America features four studio cabins, while Norwegian Viva offers 73. Their award-winning Studio Staterooms are now available across Norwegian's full 19-ship fleet.

The future is powered by artificial intelligence, and the time to invest is NOW. We’re talking disease prediction, hyper-personalized marketing, and automated logistics that streamline everything. Enrich your cruise vacation with up to 6 Free Offers with Norwegian's Free At Sea promotion.

Prices range from $100,000 for an interior stateroom to $250,000 for one with a balcony. But this doesn't include monthly fees, which start at $3,500 for a double-occupancy interior stateroom. From there, the ship would spend a few days each in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania, before doing a 24-day deep dive into Greece, and then heading to Turkey. Along the way, there would be “Residents Choice” days, where those aboard could vote on where they’d like to go by using a special phone app for residents.

After the acquisition, the team is set to spend two to three weeks and several million dollars refreshing the vessel.

Not a lot is known about Somnio – the superyacht is still cloaked in mystery, and details are only available to those invited to apply for a residence onboard. The ship’s yearly itinerary includes stops at some of the world’s most premier events, such as Wimbledon in London, Carnival in Rio De Janeiro, Running of the Bulls in Spain, and Cannes Film Festival in France. You should bear in mind how much work would be involved in constantly booking your next cruise, plus the added stress of worrying about whether you’d miss your chance and end up without a cabin. Moving cabins might not be the end of the world – but it would be a lot easier if you didn’t have to pack and unpack at the start of every new itinerary.

Laundry service, linens, towels, internet, daily room cleaning, and some entertainment are also included.

Would-be luxury operator Storylines is still planning to sail its flashy residential MV Narrative ship. Impress your kids with the Ultimate Family Suite aboard the Symphony of the Seas. The ship even has a pet exercise area so four-legged passengers can stay active and healthy, too. Cruise ships generally have a doctor onboard but visits to see them are costly, and they don’t offer most dental treatments. Instead of booking individual cruises, people purchase one of the residences on the ship and are then free to use it as and when they want. Some people live on the ship full-time while others come and go, using it as a vacation home or an alternative to owning a yacht. Technically you could live on any cruise ship, but it might not be possible. Cruises don’t always sell out, but the most popular staterooms and cabins book up far in advance.

You own your residence and so you’re able to welcome guests onto the ship if you wish. These cruises are often expensive too, so the cost of booking world cruises as frequently as possible may not be something you can afford to do. Another thing to consider is the condo community you are buying into. Remember, these are not your standard fellow single-serving cruise vacationers but your long-term neighbors and condo owners. Research the on-board society and culture, and find out what they stand for. One thing is for sure, you will share a common thirst for travel and adventure.
